You haven't heard about our sock recycling initiative?

Did you know that in 2019 we launched the world’s first sock recycling initiative to reduce the 501,000t of textiles that were being dumped into Australian landfills annually? In just 5 months we were able to divert over 13,000kg of socks from landfill and completely reverse our own impact on textile waste!

Repurposed for future use.

We’ll donate items that are in good condition to various charities, giving your clothes a new life.

We’re partnered with some epic organisations like Good360 and Ready Set (formerly Wear for Success) to ensure that any items that you send to us in a fit-for-wear condition get passed on to those who need them most!

If you’re a part of a charity or organisation interested in receiving donations of these fit-for-wear items, send us an email here.

Remaining items will be prepared for repurposing or recycling!

Products like jeans can be repurposed into new items, like tote bags and aprons. Any items that are damaged can be recycled to create new yarn or shredded and used for things like insulation or stuffing for pet beds!

Clear out your wardrobe and we’ll take care of the rest…

On average, Australians purchase 27kg of new textiles each year and then discard around 23kg into landfill — annually. To put that into perspective, that’s a massive 80% of your purchases for the year tossed into the trash. And of that number, around two-thirds are manmade synthetic/plastic fibres that may never breakdown.

Armed with this knowledge we encourage you to clear out your wardrobe sustainably by sending your unwanted, old and damaged items to us! We’ll prepare them for a second life and you can rest easy knowing that you’re helping to reverse the impact these items have on our planet when they sit in landfill.

Hot tip: Every single kilogram you send us for reuse or recycling will prevent 3 — 4kg of greenhouse gasses polluting the air we breathe!

When we work together we can achieve some pretty remarkable things!

What’s happening now:

6,000

Australians currently discard approximately 6,000 kilograms of fashion and textile waste into landfill every 10 minutes.

1.2

Globally, the fashion industry is the second largest polluting industry after the oil and gas industry and contributes 1.2 billion tonnes of carbon toward greenhouse gas emissions every year (more than all international flights and maritime shipping combined).

How we’re making a difference:

53,961

Thanks to our community and our partners, we’ve already diverted over 50 tonnes of clothing and shoes from landfill, seeing us able to completely reverse our own impact on textile waste! Now we’re pledging to recycle or reuse as many products as we distribute by 2022.

3-4

For every single kilogram you send to us for reuse and recycling you will prevent 3—4kg of greenhouse gasses polluting the air we breathe! Send us 10kg of unwanted items and keep 30—40kg of greenhouse gasses out of our atmosphere!

Got more questions? We’re happy to answer them!

What items do you accept for reuse and recycling?

We can accept all of your old, worn or damaged clothing items — think jeans, t-shirts, socks and pairs of shoes! We can even accept old sheets, towels, fabric off-cuts and textiles!
The only requirement is that items are clean, so we recommend popping everything through a quick wash before packaging it for collection.

Why does it cost $25?

Freight/Pick Up

$22.03 (avg in Australia)

+

Recycling

$2 per kg (=$20)

=

Total:

$42.02 for one box.
(+ other expenses including storing, sorting, separating and distributing fit-for-wear items to charities and recycling the remaining items!)

Are there any items I CAN'T send?

We cannot accept unwashed items for reuse or recycling, so please ensure all items are clean and dried before sending! Shoes must be in pairs — please don’t send single shoes.
We also cannot accept bras and underwear at the moment, so please don’t send them.

How many items can I send you?

When you book your collection you are provided an allowance of up to 10kg. Your items must be packaged into a box or satchel sized no larger than carry-on luggage — 56cm x 36cm x 23cm.

How do I work out what 10kg is?

If you don’t have scales then we encourage you to do your best approximate guess when packing items! And if it helps — we’ve worked out that 10kg is equal to 65 t-shirts 👚👕

How should I package my items?

Your items can be packaged into anything. Think inside the box — a wine box, food delivery box or grocery box would work! You can also put your items into a securely sealed and durable bag, package or satchel.

Ensure it weighs approx. 10kg and is approx. the size of carry-on luggage (56cm x 36cm x 23cm).

Please note: Couriers cannot collect items that are unsealed or open. You will need to ensure that your box, bag or package is secure and completely sealed so that it can be transported safely and easily.

Do I need a printer to participate?

Yes — you will need access to a printer so that you can print off the label we email you to stick to your box or package!

If you do not have a printer at home then you can print from an Offiiceworks. Find your local Officeworks here.

Do you collect from all areas in Australia?

We sure do! Our team of couriers are at the ready — including our own couriers along with our partners Sendle (Australia’s first 100% carbon neutral delivery service), Australia Post and Pack & Send!

How do I score my $25 credit?

You’ll receive this via email after you register your collection, and you can spend it on any MANRAGS product*.

*Excluding sock recycling satchels. Cannot be used in conjunction with any other discount or offer. This credit will only be applied to your first collection.
